Get Yourself Tested Month
The Douglas County Health Department has made no secret that we have an epidemic of STDs in our community. April is Get Yourself Tested Month, and your chance to take a stand and turn the tide in this battle.
“You need to know your status to protect the ones you love, and to prepare yourself for a healthy future,” Douglas County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour said. “Please take advantage of this free testing.”
The Douglas County Health Department and its partners will offer 17 days of free testing at locations throughout the county and in the surrounding area. No appointments are needed, and testing is available as early as 9 a.m. some days, and as late as 11 p.m. on another. Testing will be available at five locations on April 20.
DCHD and its partners are hoping 1,000 people will take advantage of this free testing during the month.
“Make a choice to know your status,” Dr. Pour said. “It is the responsible thing to do.”
This month’s Get Yourself Tested partnership involves the Douglas County Health Department, Nebraska AIDS Project, Charles Drew Health Center, Nu-Life, UNMC, Nebraska Children’s Home, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, One World, DHHS, Medical Reserve Corp, Latino Center of the Midlands, Omaha Public Libraries, Jewish Family Services, Girls Inc., FLIXX, and Council Bluffs Public Health Department.
