Health Department Introduces New Safety Paper for Vital Records
A new type of safety paper is being used by the Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) to make birth and death certificates more secure. Several built-in safety features make duplicating the new paper difficult.
¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† ‚ÄúThis new paper should make it extremely difficult to change or steal your identity by using a vital records certificate,‚ÄĚ Douglas County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour said. ‚ÄúSeveral security features have been included to protect you.‚ÄĚ
Those features include a background design, raised seal in color, and consecutive numbering.
Safety paper is recommended by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics recommends it to prevent the use of vital records for fraudulent purposes.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) files records of vital events occurring in the state outside Douglas County. DHHS Vital Records also will be using the new paper.
